Wigan Pet Collection Service – What Actually Happens When We Arrive

Wigan Pet Collection Service – What Actually Happens When We Arrive

Almost every household that rings us asks some version of the same question, usually near the end of the call and usually a little apologetically. What will it actually be like. Nobody explains the visit itself, so people picture something formal and brace for it. A Wigan pet collection service is a good deal quieter and plainer than most owners expect, and this page describes it properly. Heavenly Pastures is a small family business arranging pet cremations across the borough, and none of what follows is a sales description.

Before Anybody Comes Out

Collection is arranged on the telephone, and the call is short. We take your address, ask what animal we are coming for and roughly what size they are, and agree a time. That is genuinely most of it. Where access is awkward, a back entry, a flat above the ground floor, a farm track off a lane, tell us then rather than leaving us to discover it, because it changes what we bring rather than whether we come.

Our Hours, Stated Accurately

We answer the telephone Monday to Friday, from half past eight in the morning until four in the afternoon. There is an out of hours arrangement that sits outside those times and carries an additional charge. That is the true picture, and it matters more than it might seem, because a family who has been told somebody is always available and then finds nobody answering at two in the morning is worse off than a family who knew where they stood. If your animal has died overnight or over the weekend, nothing is being neglected by waiting. Keep them somewhere cool and undisturbed and ring when we open.

Who Turns Up, and What They Look Like

One person, occasionally two where a large dog is involved. A plain van without livery, because most households would rather the street did not know their business. No uniform in the funeral sense. You will not be asked to sign a stack of paperwork on the doorstep and there is no ceremony attached to the handover. The whole thing tends to take a few minutes unless you want longer, and wanting longer is entirely normal.

What Gets Said, and What Does Not

We confirm who we are and check your animal’s name and details against what was agreed on the phone, which is the beginning of the identification that stays with them. Beyond that, we take our cue from you. Some households want a moment and a few words. Others cannot manage speaking at all and would rather it was done quickly and quietly, and that is met without comment. Nobody is going to press you into conversation you have no appetite for.

Where Wigan Housing Makes a Difference

The borough covers a lot of different ground and the practicalities change with it. Terraced streets around the town centre and out through the old colliery villages have narrow entries and difficult parking, and we plan the approach beforehand rather than arriving and improvising. Newer estates towards Standish and Shevington are easier for a van but often have longer paths and side gates. Out towards the mosslands and the lanes, the address itself is the problem, so a landmark on the phone saves everybody time. None of this is unusual and none of it needs solving by you.

Collecting From the Practice Instead

Where your animal died at the vet, or the appointment took place there, we collect directly from your veterinary practice. That is often the better arrangement, because it spares somebody driving back for an animal they are in no state to carry, and the practice will hold them in the meantime. Say which surgery when you ring and we will deal with them rather than you.

What Happens After We Drive Away

Your animal is taken to our crematorium at Burscough, near Ormskirk. There is no branch, unit or crematorium anywhere in Wigan and never has been, and it is worth saying plainly rather than letting anybody assume otherwise. If you would rather not hand your animal over at the door at all, you are welcome to bring them to Burscough yourselves, and some families much prefer that. Our page covering Wigan pet cremations sets out the arrangements for the borough more fully.

Which Service You Have Chosen Changes What Comes Back

With an individual cremation service, your animal is cremated on their own, identified at each stage, and their ashes are returned to you by hand rather than posted. With a communal cremation service, cremation happens alongside other animals and no ashes are returned to anybody. Owners are frequently upset to learn the second part after the event, so it belongs on a page about collection rather than tucked away. Both are proper choices and expense is a fair thing to weigh.

Larger Dogs and the Lifting

This is the part households worry about most and need to worry about least. A collapsed labrador in a narrow hallway is beyond what most people can safely manage, and owners hurt themselves trying. Our individual dog cremation service covers every size, and we come equipped for stairs, steps and tight doorways. You will not be asked to take a corner or hold a door.

How Identity Is Kept With Your Animal

Because collection is the moment your animal leaves your hands, it is also the moment the identification begins. How that runs from the doorstep through to the return of ashes is documented on our our standards page, and anybody who wants to understand it rather than take it on trust is welcome to read it or ask.

What Collection Costs

Collection is not a flat fee. It is banded according to how far the driver travels out from Burscough, which is why one household’s charge differs from another’s, and out of hours sits above that again. Current figures are held on the pet cremation price list rather than written here where they would go out of date without anyone noticing.

Whether We Reach Your Address

The borough is covered throughout, villages included. Everywhere else on the round is listed on the areas we cover page if you are checking on behalf of somebody living further out.

Arranging It

Ring 01704 776976 and ask anything you like about the visit, including the things that feel too small to mention. If speaking is more than you can manage, our contact form reaches the same team and gets a reply. Asking commits you to nothing at all.
