Shaw Pet Cremations – Arranging It From a Distance

A fair number of the people who ring us about an animal in this part of the world are not in this part of the world themselves. A parent’s dog has died, or a relative cannot face making the calls, and somebody two hundred miles away is trying to sort it out by telephone. Heavenly Pastures provides pet cremations for households across Shaw. On location, we hold nothing in the town and no crematorium exists here. Doing It All by Telephone

It can be arranged entirely at a distance and a good proportion of what we handle is. Nobody needs to be present, nothing needs signing, and there is no requirement for the person organising it to be the person the animal lived with.

Somebody Has to Let Us In

That is really the only practical constraint. A neighbour, a relative or a key holder can be there instead, and the person at the house does not have to be the person we have spoken to. Tell us who will be there and roughly when suits, and it is arranged from that. Where the household is elderly or unwell and would rather not answer the door at all, that can be worked around as well, with somebody else present and the person of the house in another room entirely.

Deciding on Somebody Else’s Behalf

Where a relative is too distressed to choose, or has dementia, or simply asks you to deal with it, you are entitled to decide. The one thing worth knowing is that if you are unsure what they would have wanted, taking the individual route keeps the option of ashes open, while the alternative closes it permanently. That is the safer choice when acting for somebody who cannot tell you, and nobody has ever regretted having the option available and not using it.

Telling Somebody Who Should Not Be Told Yet

Where the owner is in hospital or in care, families agonise over whether to say anything. No rule covers it. Our observation is only that an animal frequently remains a fixed point for somebody with dementia long after much else has slipped, and repeating the news turns it into a new bereavement every time. Answering honestly when asked directly, and not raising it otherwise, is a reasonable middle course rather than a deception.

Ashes at a Distance

Where ashes are being returned, they can be held here until somebody is able to travel rather than being delivered to an empty house or left with a neighbour. There is no time limit on that whatsoever, and nobody will chase to have them collected. Families sometimes collect them months later when visiting anyway, and some prefer to have them brought to the relative’s home once things have settled.

The Two Services

Under an individual cremation service nothing else is present at any stage, which is the whole reason anything returns to you. A communal cremation service means a number cremated as one with nothing returned to any household. The same hands carry out both to a single standard. Neither is the respectful choice and neither is the cheap one, but only one leaves anything to bring home and it cannot be reversed afterwards.

A Mill Town Above the Valley

Shaw sits high, with the ground climbing away toward the moor edge behind it, and dogs raised here tend to have done proper distances on that ground rather than round a park. Open country does not alter from one year to the next, which is why it is generally the walk rather than the empty house that becomes unbearable for whoever is left in it. That matters when you are arranging things from elsewhere, because the person at home is losing a good deal more of their daily shape than the phone call conveys.

Collection Here

Coming out is the ordinary arrangement rather than a favour. Nothing needs preparing beforehand and nobody at the house should be lifting an animal, which matters more than usual where the person there is elderly. The older terraces are tight for parking, which is our difficulty rather than anybody else’s, and nobody at the house should be going out to move a car or find us a space. Pets that die at the surgery are collected directly from there, so nobody has to return for them. What It Costs

Costs are displayed in full on the pet cremation price list instead of being quoted in conversation, which matters when you are arranging things for somebody else and want to be able to show them what was spent.
